This set of star maps was created by plotting the position brightness and color of 17 billion stars from the Hipparcos-2 Tycho-2 and Gaia Data Release 2 star catalogs with help from the Yale Bright Star Catalog UCAC3 and the XHIP Hipparcos cross-reference. In the spirit of the original this is a randomized star map suitable as a backdrop for views of space from places that are far from EarthWhile the Gaia Data Release 2 star catalog still provides the galactic background the stars of the Tycho 2 catalog have been randomly moved around so that no recognizable constellation figures remain. The star charts are maps of the sky overhead.
The map includes the Moon stars brighter than magnitude 5 the five bright planets Mercury Venus Mars Jupiter and Saturn and deep-sky objects that can be seen without the use of optical aid.
