World Wind Maps. The Global Wind Atlas is a free web-based application developed to help policymakers planners and investors identify high-wind areas for wind power generation virtually anywhere in the world and then perform preliminary calculations. The data is updated every three hours and it can be set to show wind conditions on any day in recent history. It uses the Emxsys WorldWindJS library to display a 3D globe with terrain and imagery as well as 2D maps. To make the maps above multiyear average wind speeds were calculated from the WIND ToolkitThe contiguous United States Canada and Mexico are separate analysis regions and were thus calculated individually.
